Attracting Goldfinches to your garden
Goldfinches like to feed primarily on seeds that come from various kinds of weeds. For this reason if you want to attract them to your garden, you should plant the following in your garden:
Thistle, dandelions, sunflowers, coreopsis, cosmos, service berry, birch, hornbeam, sweet gum, mulberry, hemlock, zinnias, elm and alder.
Goldfinches are very sociable birds and are known to visit bird feeders in large flocks. The best food to put in your bird feeders for attracting Goldfinches is thistle seed, nyjer seed or black oil

sunflower seed.
A source of water in your garden is very important. Goldfinches love to bathe so try and provide some type of bird bath.
Goldfinches nest later than most other bird species, from June through August. This is when one of their favorite foods, thistle seed ripens. The female birds also line their nests with the down of thistle. If you want Goldfinches to nest in your garden, provide a nest box for them. Either buy one or make your own.
